Healthy heart for healthy long life

Globally, cardio vascular diseases and heart strokes including non communicable diseases (NCDs) are collectively responsible for mounting proportion of all disabilities, mortalities, and even pre- matured deaths of people before reaching 70 years of age. These problems more often occurs in low-and middle-income countries.

Heart Diseases occurs when plaque develops in the arteries and blood vessels that lead of the heart. This blocks important nutrients and oxygen from reaching our heart. Plaque is a waxy substance made up of cholesterol, fatty molecules and minerals.

In India, the non-communicable diseases are rising at an alarming rate. The epidemic of NCDs poses devastating health consequences for individuals, families, and communities, and threatens to overall health systems. Low physical activity, (especially during and post COVID-19 pandemic), imbalanced diet and unhealthy diet pattern are major attributes for the rise of NCDs. The socio-economic cost associated with these NCDs are exorbitantly high and thus it is imperative to prevent, control and manage the critical disease.

A healthy heart with appropriate timely care will strongly prevents from all viruses and infections especially COVID–19. It is important for cardiac patients to take control of their lifestyle habits and motivate behavioral changes as a positive move.
