Webinar on ILLNESS TO WELLNESS “Managing Eye Care”
Eyes are the window to the world and most precious gift to enjoy quality life and an overall development of an individual and society eventually to promote happiness and prosperity as well. Hence, taking very good care of eye health is critical as well as a matter of high concern.
Eye diseases are on the rise around the world as we all largely neglect eye health and problems related to it. As per World Health Organization (WHO), at least 2.2 billion people worldwide have a near, or distance vision impairment and visual impairment of half of such population could have been avoided if the patient had received proper diagnosis and treatment. The burden of eye health weighs more heavily on low-and middle-income countries, among elderly people residing in rural parts.
In India, the incidence of eye diseases including low vision or impairment are on the rise. There are also ample studies depicting that Indians are at a high risk of diabetes and glaucoma–related vision problems, including total blindness. It is further observed that India is on the verge of the dry eye disease epidemic, and it is rapidly spreading especially among urban population. Cataract and refractive errors are very common eye health problems and further negligence and delayed in treatment leads to other critical complications.
The increase in ‘screen sharing’ time primarily among students due to digital classes, professionals because of online work has further added more troubles and eye strain among all age and gender groups irrespective of socio-economic divide especially during COVID 19 public health emergency. Eye care has always been considered as the separate entity from the rest of healthcare, however, the new strategy has extensively promoted the integration of eye care services.
With the paramount objectives to cascade awareness and disseminate wisdom to substantially prevent low vision problems, eye related critical diseases and blindness eventually to live a healthier, happier, independent and prosperous life, under Illness To Wellness campaign, ASSOCHAM is organized a webinar during “Low Vision Awareness Month” on “Managing Eye Care” scheduled on Wednesday, 23rd February 2022 from 3.00 PM To 4.00 PM.
