Webinar on “Obesity: An Impact of COVID–19 Pandemic”
Obesity is a condition that refers to accumulation of excess fat in the body which may lead to an increased risk of major health conditions including heart disease, hypertension, diabetes and other several critical diseases. Obesity, a multisystem disease and centre for most of the disease, is a growing health concern.
COVID–19, a global pandemic, is posing an unprecedented potent challenge which has adversely and colossally impacted in ‘dietary or eating behaviour, sleep pattern, stress levels, and amount of physical activity’. The excess intake of “high-fat-and-high-sugar” diet with reduced physical activity and unhealthy lifestyle have made people more prone to obesity. Consequently, the pandemic and lockdowns have severely affected the various physical health key parameters and obesity among adults and children are on rise among Indian population. It is pertinent to note here that higher body weight or obesity are directly linked with severe COVID–19 risk outcomes as well. Complications and risk rise sharply with increase in BMI.
Furthermore, this pandemic is diverting its focus on “specific medical conditions” and neglecting obesity completely leading to other critical diseases. There are ample studies depicting marked increase in the proportion of adults suffering from obesity, overweight with increase in body mass index (BMI), other lifestyle diseases, etc.
With the paramount objectives to cascade awareness and disseminate wisdom about managing body mass index and weight to gain health benefits and reduce other risk factors to lead a healthier, happier and prosperous life, under Illness To Wellness campaign, ASSOCHAM organized a webinar on “Obesity: An Impact of COVID–19 Pandemic” scheduled on Thursday, 10th February 2022 from 3.00 PM To 4.00 PM.
